Starlight
Starlight is a single-movement orchestral piece that focuses on developing a sweet and flowing melody reminiscent of a night-time escapade. The piece opens with a somber melody that introduces the musical themes. Like a carousel in a fair, the music rises and flows. While the central themes sing to the stars, the piece turns darker, manifesting doubt and weariness. The music evolves through lullabies and fanfares, with melodies rising and shrinking, telling the story of Starlight.
This piece was part of my 2023 AP Capstone Project, Starlight, A Closer Listen into the Composition Process, where I illustrated my personal music composition process from beginning to publication by examining the steps to compose Starlight. The project aimed to educate musicians and listeners alike on the expansive process of composing music and to establish a greater appreciation for the compositional process across all musical genres for listeners.
