SKYSCAPE

Premiered by Polina Beymanov
(Vocalist and Pianist)

When we look up, admiring the sky, we rarely stop to consider all of its independent aspects, working in harmony to create the skyscape. Similar to our rural landscapes and bustling cityscapes, the skyscape has its own innate sense of beauty. SKYSCAPE aims to illustrate this natural beauty of the sky through an expressive, rhapsodic journey, from the puffy (or stormy) clouds, to the radiant and powerful sun, to the secretive, romantic moon, ending with the thousands of twinkling stars.

Original Text:

Clouds:

Oh high,

Oh high,

Bold within the stratosphere, lofts of heaven drifting to the Earth

Elysian Islands floating on whimsical shores

A sea of air

Squalling tides, with zephyr waves, and oceans of sky

So high, high,

Wisping and the gusts, empyrean thoughts in the scape of the sky

A strike, a strike!

Wisping and gusts

Empyrean thoughts beneath the zenith of the sky

Sol:

O Sol,

Helios,

Thine gilded rays, cascading

The glint of your majesty

O Sol,

Greater Orb,

Bearer of light

To see thine benevolence

To feel thine warmth

To see you shine,

O Sol!

Your wrathful grasp upon us!

Flared from your malignant glare

Of radiant beams that scorch and burn!

Yet through you,

O Sol,

perched upon your candescent throne,

so bright,

we rise

Oh Moon:

Oh Moon, how your light shines on me

Illuminating veils cast by night

of nighttime affairs, yet to be

So Soon, that your face is waned away

crescent by crescent in midnight hue,

while whittled that same smile stays

Sometimes I gaze upon your lunar guise

Psychic of the sky

A celestial merchant bold, selling their dreams of old

Memories captured from moonlit nights before,

Oh moon, how you orbit above that sky of twilight

Sending fleeting wishes of romance

as you kiss the world goodnight

Stars:

Astral vestiges from years ago,

Stories projected to those below,

Cloaking the night sky with specks of dust,

Silver in color, never to rust
